Today’s Assignment
Students will learn how to determine formulas for ionic compounds in this lesson. The Next Generation Science Standard covered is HS-PS1-1: “Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.”
The lesson should take up to an hour, but actual time needed will be based on the student’s reading ability.
1. Students are to read the section titled, “Lesson 21 Salty Eights: Formulas for Ionic Compounds” found on pages 104 – 108. It is encouraged to look at all text, figures, and examples for maximum comprehension.
